How Does FreePBX Work

When you think of VoIP systems, you may not immediately think of FreePBX. However, FreePBX is one of the most popular VoIP systems in the world, powering over 1 million systems worldwide. So, how does FreePBX work? FreePBX is an open-source VoIP system that runs on top of the Asterisk PBX. Asterisk is a software-based PBX that turns your computer into a phone system. FreePBX adds a graphical user interface (GUI) on top of Asterisk, making it easy to set up and manage your phone system. Free PBX is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL), which means that it is free to use and modify. Anyone can download the source code and make their own changes to the system. FreePBX is also available as a turn-key appliance, which includes a pre-configured version of FreePBX and Asterisk.

How To Configure FreePBX

Assuming you have already installed FreePBX, the first thing you need to do is open the FreePBX web interface. You’ll be welcomed by the Setup Wizard. The Setup Wizard will guide you through a few basic configuration steps for your new system.

Once the Setup Wizard is complete, you will be able to begin configuring your system to meet your specific needs. There are a variety of settings that can adjusted in Free PBX, so we will only cover a few of the most important ones here.

To begin, click on the PBX tab at the top of the page and then select General Settings. Here you can set your time zone and choose whether or not to use daylight savings time. You can also enable or disable certain features such as voicemail and caller ID blocking.

Next, click on the Agents tab. Here you can add or remove agents from your system as well as configure their settings. Agents are typically used for call center applications, but they can also used for other purposes such as after-hours answering services.

Another step is to press on the Expansions tab. This is where you will add extensions for all of the users on your system. You can also specify what type of device each extension will use (e.g., IP phone, softphone, etc.) and configure other settings such as voicemail options and call forwarding rules.

Free PBX is a phone system that allows you to make and receive calls using a VoIP service. You’ll utilize Free PBX with any congruous VoIP benefit, such as Skype or Google Voice. To set up Free PBX , you’ll need to sign up for a VoIP service and then install the Free PBX software on your computer. Once you’ve done this, you can start making and receiving calls through your Free PBX phone system.

How To Check The FreePBX Version

To check your Free PBX version, log into the Free PBX web GUI and click on the “About” tab. Your Free PBX version will displayed at the top of the page.
